Directions

FROM NEW YORK: I-95 North to Rhode Island Exit #3. Route 138 East to Route 1 North. Two miles on 1N back to 138E (to exit for Newport Bridge ). Follow 138E over Jamestown (Verrazano) Bridge (no toll) and over Newport (Pell) Bridge ($2.00 toll). Take exit for "Scenic Newport". Turn right at the end of the exit ramp. Turn right at second traffic light on to America's Cup Ave.

FROM BOSTON: I-495 South to 95 South to 195 East. 195E over Braga Bridge (no toll). Take exit for 24 South. 24S over Sakonnet River Bridge. Continue on 114 South into Newport, onto Broadway and then to Thames Street.

OR: I-95 South to Route 24 South (short stretch on 195 West back onto 24S for Newport exit). 24S over Sakonnet River Bridge (see above).

ONCE IN NEWPORT: America's Cup Avenue or Broadway to Thames Street. Take Thames Street south to Carroll Avenue. Bear left at St. Augustin's Church. Stay on Carroll Avenue past the park. Turn right at stop sign (tennis courts on right) onto Ruggles Avenue. Hawthorne House is #71 Ruggles and set back from street . . . there is a very large boulder in the front garden.
